Kitchens and baths in Boise, Idaho

Decide first. Then we price it.

Fenwick Design and Build plans and builds kitchens and bathrooms across the Treasure Valley. Six decisions come before any estimate, so the number you get is for the room you have chosen.

  • Design and build under one roof
  • An itemized, written estimate

The worksheet

Six decisions before the estimate

We don't price a guess. At the design meeting you and Meredith settle six things on one page, and the estimate is written from your answers.

  • 01

    Layout

Stay put, or move things? Where the sink, range and refrigerator sit decides the plumbing, the gas line and the wiring, and that decides most of the cost.

    • Keep the footprint, or open a wall

    • Where water, gas and venting already run

    • Who walks through, and where they stand

  • 02

    Cabinets

Stock, semi-custom or built in the shop. How the boxes are made, how the doors look, and how long they take to arrive.

    • Door style and finish

    • Drawers and pull-outs you will use

    • The order date that sets the schedule

  • 03

    Counters

Stone, quartz, wood or tile. Counters are measured after the cabinets are set, so the material and the fabricator's calendar set a week of the job.

    • Edge and thickness

    • Sink and faucet cutouts

    • Where the seams fall

  • 04

    Appliances

Choose them early, because they arrive late. Lead times change from month to month. We check them with you the day you choose, and order before demolition starts so the cabinets are cut to real sizes.

    • Cooktop, oven and hood venting

    • Refrigerator depth and panels

    • Dishwasher, disposal and water filter

  • 05

    Lighting

Where the light comes from. Ceiling, under-cabinet and pendant light are planned with the layout, not added after the walls are closed.

    • Switches and dimmers

    • Task light over each work surface

    • Outlets at counter height

  • 06

    Budget

A range you set before we draw. You tell us the range you are comfortable with. We show what fits and what doesn't, line by line, before anything is ordered.

    • What you would trade to stay inside it

    • An allowance for what is not yet chosen

    • How you plan to pay

Nothing is ordered, and nothing is billed, until you have read the written estimate.

Why we ask first

An estimate is only as firm as the choices behind it

When cabinets, counters and appliances are still open, an estimate has to guess, and a guess gets padded or revised later.

When they are settled, we price the actual room. If you change your mind after that, we write the change down with its cost before anything is ordered.

What you get

  • One estimate, itemized by part of the room

  • Allowances named, with what is left to choose

  • Every change priced in writing first

Who you'll meet

Meredith draws every room we build

She leads the design meeting, walks you through the six decisions and signs the drawings that the crew builds from.

Fenwick Design and Build is woman-owned and has nine people: designers, carpenters, a finisher, a project manager and the office. Electrical and plumbing are done by Idaho-licensed trades, and the estimate names who.

From clients

What the six decisions felt like

“We filled in the worksheet at our own kitchen table before the first meeting. The estimate matched what we had picked, line by line.”

Shana L.Kitchen, North End

“The refrigerator we chose had a long wait. They told us on day one, so the cabinets were cut for it and nothing sat in the garage.”

Devin K.Kitchen, Bench

“I didn't know I had to decide where the switches go. Meredith asked, drew it, and it was right when the walls closed.”

Before you book

Do you only work on kitchens and baths?

Yes. Kitchens, bathrooms and the tile, cabinets, counters and lighting inside them. We don't build additions, decks or new houses, and we'll say so when you call.

What happens at the design meeting?

We sit down with the worksheet, your photos and a tape measure. We go through the six decisions with you and leave you with notes on what is settled and what isn't.

Can I live in the house during the work?

Usually, yes. In a kitchen job we set up a sink and a hot plate elsewhere in the house, and we tell you in the estimate which days water or power will be off.

Is my house older than 1978, and does it matter?

It can. Houses built before 1978 may have lead paint, and federal rules change how we work. The FAQ page explains what we do and what you will see on site.

Start with the worksheet

Fill it in at home, or bring it to a design meeting. We read it before we meet.
