Lighting plans

A kitchen is lit three ways, and each needs a place in the plan.

We draw the ceiling lights, the light under the cabinets and the pendants over the island at the same time as the layout, so the wiring goes in before the walls close. Idaho-licensed electricians do the electrical work, and the estimate names them.

What's included

  • Recessed and surface ceiling lights

  • Under-cabinet light and switching

  • Pendants over islands and peninsulas

  • Dimmers, and which lights share a switch

  • Outlets at counter height

Cost

What changes the cost

No figure here, because the room sets it. These are the things that move it.

  • Number of fixtures

Each one needs a box, a wire and a switch.

  • New circuits

A kitchen with new appliances may need more than the old panel gives.

  • Ceiling type

Finished ceilings are patched after the work.

  • Fixture choice

Choose them in the worksheet so they're priced.

Questions about this work

Do you do electrical work yourselves?

Idaho-licensed electricians do it, and the estimate says who. We plan it and schedule it.

Can I add light without opening the ceiling?

Sometimes, with surface fixtures or under-cabinet strips. We say which in the design meeting.
